Finland bans Yandex to share Yango taxi clients’ data with Russia
HELSINKI, Aug 8 (PRIME) -- The Finnish data protection authority has forbidden Internet company Yandex and Dutch firm Ridetech International B.V., which processes personal data of users of taxi service Yango, from sharing them with Russia, according to the watchdog’s statement released on Tuesday.
The authority requested that Yandex and Ridetech International B.V. suspend transferring any personal data of clients, collected at Yango, to Russia and stop processing collected personal data.
The temporary order is to come in force on September 1 till November 30.
The measure stems from the legislative reform Russia makes and that as the Finnish regulator thinks will hugely undermine protection of personal data when using the taxi service.
President Vladimir Putin signed the law at the end of December 2022 that regulates work of taxis. The document grants authorized bodies automated remote access to information systems and databases exploited to receive, store, process, and transfer orders for taxi carriage.
